Legacy
Quincy Jones
As a child, Quincy Jones lived in Bremerton, Washington. One day, after sneaking into the local community center in search of pie, Quincy found himself drawn to the piano. After touching the keys, Quincy said “Every cell in my body said this is what you’re going to do the rest of your life. “ Over his 8 decade career Quincy went on to be one of the most successful producers, composers, conductors, arrangers, and musicians in contemporary music ranging from jazz to hip hop.
Ralph Mutchler & OC Jazz Festival
The Olympic College Jazz Festival ran from 1960 to 1974 and, under the leadership of Ralph Mutchler, grew to be the largest and most significant jazz festival in the state featuring as many as 80 high school jazz bands from around the country. Ralph’s connections in the jazz world were a who’s who of the greats. Over the years, adjudicators and guest performers included, Buddy DeFranco, Johnny Smith, Doc Severson, Quincy Jones, Gary Burton, Lou Marini, Dick Grove, Buddy Baker, and Stan Kenton.
